Unfortunately this poor little chick didn’t make it and passed away this afternoon.

Thanks everyone. I’ve hatched chicks under my broody silkies before...and they were all perfect. I attempted this time to use an incubator so I could do it with my preschool class. Only 2 of the 5 eggs were fertilized. As far as this baby goes, I must have made an error somehow... maybe with the humidity during incubation. I think I’ll hold off on trying to incubate eggs again until I research more. It was a fun experience for my students. I just wish it had a different outcome.

That chick had a severe vaulted skull. I'm thinking there were some neurological issues that accompanied it.

I did notice that...but thought it was common with silkies?

Oh hon, I'm sorry. I had a chick like that..it lived about 5 days. I did what you were doing. You are an angel.a really wonderful person.
