Do you provide oyster shell available all the time for the hens to help themselves? Sometimes you can get soft shell eggs even if you do. If you know which hen is doing it, give her some extra calcium with a Citracal tablet or generic equivalent once a day for 5 to 7 days. It provides calcium citrate and Vit D3 which makes the calcium more readily available. Just pop it in her beak and she'll swallow it right down. You can get it anywhere that sells vitamins and supplements. I was getting two "jelly eggs" a day sometimes and this fixed it right up.Yeah..we’ve been getting soft shelled eggs lately for some reason.
She has 32 hensI am watching over my daughter's flock while they are out of town. They collected eggs yesterday about lunchtime. This evening I got 25
Yes, they have oyster shell available at all times. A couple weeks ago I did calcium plus D tablets for about five days…the shells improved but then after a few days they got soft again. I’m doing the calcium plus D tabs again. I’m really not sure why they do this. Last year I had hardly any issues with shells. They get 16%layer feed, have oyster shell available, I feed back their shells, I give soldier fly larvae as treats, and they get free range time a few hours daily. And it’s only my Golden Comets that lay weird eggs. My Bantams have good shells when they lay.Do you provide oyster shell available all the time for the hens to help themselves? Silverudd Blues/Isbars lay a pale green egg, and it’s sometimes speckled. Really lovely! Cackle Hatchery sells them I believe, but they’re currently out of stock.I have Sapphire Gems that lay brown eggs, and Prairie Bluebell Eggers and lavender EEs that lay pretty blue eggs, and one or two that lay olive eggs ... who can tell me what kind of chicken lays the prettiest GREEN egg, and where I can get them?
