I'm sure a lot of it comes down to luck.
I've got Cream Legbar hens and roosters, a Black Ameraucana hen, a bunch of straight-run Black Copper Maran chicks so I'm sure I'll end up with both roosters and hens. I also currently have some Black Copper Maran laying hens. I'd like to try to get some cross that will hopefully lay something purplish
I have a number of other hens as well (Blue Andalusian, Black Australorp, Barred Rock).
I was going to start with Black Copper Maran hens with Cream Legbar rooster see what I get and go from there. I expect those to be olive egg layer so would probably breed back with the Cream Legbar rooster. But curious about other peoples experiences.
There was a big thread in the past about purple egg layers but it was 19 pages long and the last post is from 11/2016. Instead of resurrecting an old thread I thought I might ask the question a fresh and see where it goes.
I'm aware of croad langshan but curious about how to recreate the egg color with some cross breeding.
