I'm putting my list together of eggs that I want to set April 26th. I would love to add a Big White Chicken. I don't have any preferences at this time, just want a sweet big white hen.

Any comments on this list?

white jersey giant
white leghorn
white wyandotte
white orpington
california white
Rhode island white
White rock

I vote for leghorn!!! I love my Kernal!! My baby is such a cuddle bug and good to his girls!
Heres some pictures to help you make up your mind;)!

White cochin... fluffy and as kind and personable as chickens get.

I don't have experience with many on that list, but I'll put in my 2 cents anyways.

First...every chicken has it's own personality, regardless of breed. Most people say Leghorns are flighty and not friendly, but mine was the sweetest cudliest chicken in my flock. She would sit right in my lap hoping for treats. Leghorns are NOT big though, so if big is important, then try something else. Leghorns are smaller, thinner and smooth feathered.

I have 3 Buff Orpingtons, and I guess a White Orp would be similar. They are big and soft and fluffy and beautiful. I have 1 very friendly one, and the other two won't let me touch them. I don't know why they are so different...I guess the same reason any siblings have different personalities.

I am getting Wyandottes soon, so I'll know more about them later...can't really comment on the others.

Good luck with your search. I think you'll be pretty happy no matter which you choose, as long as you handle them when they're young and feed them treats from your hands.

My Jersey Giants are the best chickens I have ever had and they get huge. I would never hesitate to have a flock of just JGs. They are that terrific.

But I would like to add that the more you handle them the better they are... however, I have had chickens that never were very friendly in spite of how much I handled them...

JGs are my favorite! And if you REALLY want them to follow you around and come running when they hear your voice, feed them mealworms. Chickens that really wanted nothing to do with me will now sit on my lap and let me pick them up because the worms are involved.

My vote then would have to go for a white orpington. I've seen buffs at some shows and wow.
