Improving solid black lines

I am breeding Brahmas and aiming to reach SOP with some project colors. Since most project colors are from other countries with a different standard. Can I used a penciled variety or would I be better using a columbian bird to improve quality in solid black? I would love solid blacks for ermine, mottled and just a solid black line.

Yes, but it is less messy than Columbian.

As few as three but it really depends on your luck.
