Incubating ducks weird spot, bacteria maybe?

I'm on day 18 and just candled and weighed my duck eggs. While candling I noticed this odd spot. My guess, bacteria. At this point the chick is still alive. Anybody know what this is for sure?

That's interesting - is it a new development, or has it been there since the start of incubation? It could maybe be a meat spot that was in the egg if it's been there since the beginning.

To be safe, I'd keep this egg away from the rest of the eggs in your incubator. Candle it regularly, and if you see that it has died remove it right away.

@WVduckchick, what do you think?

I suppose it could be bacteria, does it really have that greenish tint in the middle or is that just in the picture? Another thing that I might consider it to be is a broken vein that has bled a bit and the blood has pooled there, maybe.

The coloring is suspicious. :confused:

I’d make a pencil circle on the shell, and see if it’s in a different location at next candle. And see if it gets larger. At this point, it could be bacteria, but it could also just be reflection. I have some incubating that are just a couple days behind the one in question, I’ll candle tomorrow and see if I see anything in mine that could be similar, or clue me to any other possibilities.

Another thought...What kind of ducks? I could imagine maybe a blue, or even dark colored breed appearing greenish with all the yellow inside the egg, maybe?

I wondered if it was a blood spot for about half a second, then rejected the idea as unlikely...

Its greener than the picture shows.
