I picked up a chick a couple months ago and have been housing it in a transparent plastic drawer. It is very docile when compared to all the other chicks I have raised and I believe it could make a good house chicken. I can leave the drawer open for hours and when I return, it will still be sitting in there patiently waiting for food. The only time it has ever left the drawer on its own is when my landlord's cats snuck into my room when I went to grab some food and chased it out.

It is quickly outgrowing the drawer though and I will need a new enclosure for it to keep growing until it is big enough that the cats won't bother it. The current idea that I have is to get a clear plastic storage bin and store the bin under a table or some such so it can't jump out while I'm out of the house, but if anyone can think of some other better/more cost effective solution, I'd like some ideas.

I just purchased a mesh moveable coop from Amazon, which might work for your chick. Or what about a chunnel situation? That could be put inside your run area so no predators can reach in and hurt the baby and the older hens cannot get to her either. They would be able to get to know her though.
