International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

NO i don't think so about doing shows. But, you have been very informative and I appreciate you taking the time to explain this to me.
If they were bred for show you could sell their hatching eggs or offspring for more, if that’s a concern of yours. If not, they’ll be healthy nonetheless so the ‘faulty’ colour won’t matter.

I’ve lost a dozen or so in that time. Had a strange night where 9 died. No marks (though I didn’t get to see the bodies) and all one pen. All my Polish Batam hens died that night so I’m left with only Slash, the cock, who somehow bullies 8 lbs cocks in the layers pen.View attachment 4107484
Wow 9 at one time? We had a very unusually cold winter and I think 2 of them one being a polish just didn't adapt.

It was wind for us. I was busy I can’t remember why but my granddad (who’s roughly 80 but still does the most work up the allotment!) fed the chickens that day and just bagged all the dead ones up so I never got to analyse them. It was either the bad wind or a stoat or similar got in. Or they picked up rat poison somehow, but that’s unlikely because it doesn’t get out in the runs.

I believe it! My blue heeler cannot be trusted with the birds unless me or my husband are outside, then he's a perfect gentleman.
what I don t like about them is ,they are a gentleman when you looking ,ones they are along they go and do seally thing . I never trust those dogs , years of tranning goes out of the window in one second ,
Ozmarans

@ozmarans when you’ve bred English and French types together, how have you found the nature of the feathered leg gene? I’ve heard talk of two genes being responsible, so is it difficult to get rid off entirely if trying to breed English types from these crosses?
it is possable to breed the english type from a cross between the two ,just need a harder selection for few generation .featherd legs never bothered me because it is easy fix ether way ,

rat poison does not kill chickens. it kills animals that have fur. a vet told me that (when my chickens ate rat poison).

Would this rooster be considered as a blue Marans? He was left over from a few hatches back. Just curious!
