Is Meyer hatchery a good one to order from?

I ordered my now 2 y.o. hens as Meyer day-olds. Very secure travel packaging and good communication with the company. I will say that one of my 2 Meyer EEs turned out to be a crossbeak--my first out of 5 EEs sourced from various places over the many years--but I guess it is a crap shoot wherever EEs are concerned nowadays.

I was thinking of maybe ordering some chicks from Meyer hatchery so that I could pick what breed I want. I was wondering if they are good and if anyone has any warnings about them. I am curious if their chickens are healthy because I don’t want to have to deal with any health issues. Any tips or warnings would be very helpful 😊 I have read a few other threads on here and they seem good but wanted to make one of my own just to make sure.
People on this forum seem to like them and have had good experiences. I was looking into buying from them based on all the positive reviews I've seen here but decided against it when I learned that they beak trim their older pullets.

Meyer's doesn't have a small order fee.
Yes they do, it's $50. If you get 15+ birds, it's $15.

That's the shipping rate. Ask the staff like I had to.
They told me there's no small order fee.
Interesting. I guess it's whatever you want to call it. I think it's reasonable, and extra reasonable if you can order 15+.

ETA: Plus their 3 order minimum (seasonally) with no breed minimums is great. I have had good experience with Meyer, so I would order from them again.

Check on the new shipping costs.
$65 for orders under 15
$30 for orders 16-25
$25 for orders 26-100
I just found out today, and was surprised. I had been paying $15 for 15 forever.

If I don't need 15 females, and don't have a friend to split the order, I order what I want then add male fry pan bargains. Rooster chicks are not a problem until they crow so I don't mind raising them with hens, chicks do thrive best in a group. If you overwhelm girl chicks with too many boy chicks they can get bullied from food, however. (At the end, I tame up the good roosters and find them homes, or put them in freezer camp.)

They don't add this to the order to bring it up to 15, but you can also request a free female meal maker- as long as you do have females on the order, and also a free male flock protector- If any of your chicks do pass away, these are considered the extra buffer chick. Sometimes they will add an extra kind of chicks you have all ready ordered.

They do. They just don't call it that. Anything under 15 gets charged $65 for shipping. For example: last Friday I worked up an order for 7 and the total came to $86.90-- but I didn't place the order 'cause I was still deciding. By Monday I'd made up my mind that I did want that order and went to place the order, only to discover the total had jumped to $104.90. That's because over the weekend the shipping had increased from $50 to $65. So, no, I didn't place the order.

I'm looking at Cackle this evening.

They told me they don't have a small order fee. I've asked them directly about it.
