Hello,
We have a two year old Easter Egger Splash who has always been a little bit different than the rest of the flock, we've posted about her before. Not too long ago we learned about a specific feather condition typically found in ameracaunas which for the life of me I can't remember the name of right now, however we're wondering if it might possibly be what our odd Splash girl has going on, on a very mild scale.
She has always been bigger than our other girls, and is our only white -ish chicken. The tractor supply people misplaced her with the Orpington chicks but I saw she was too fluffy and had a grey wash on her head and took her home thinking she was an ameracauna.
We love her she has loads of feathers, but she always looks dingy. I often hope to find the time to give her a spa day and Lovingly brush some diatomaceous earth through her feathers with an ultra soft toothbrush. The entire rest of our mixed flock has gorgeous luxuriously silky shiny feathers. (I often dream of sitting in a rocking chair on a porch stroking one of the girls for hours) But this one splash hen has dull somewhat frazzled looking feathers. She's not getting harassed by the rest of the flock, we don't have any roosters with this flock. She's definitely getting her share of the feed and goodies.
Is it possible she has a genetic feather condition?
The girls a molted last fall, but I'm not sure that she had much of a molt.
Thoughts?
