I got 4 sapphire gem chicks. They all are suppose to be the same age but 2 a about 1 week older. The.older ones are about 6-7 weeks old. I have my suspicious that I might have a roo on my hands. There was not a spot on the head or wings when it was fluffy but looking at the tail feathers compared to the others has got me thinking. Any help will be appreciated.

The tail feathers don't mean a thing at this age, but that comb is looking pretty pink, I'd keep an eye on it and post more pictures in 2 weeks

At this age, nothing points to roo. Comb/wattles growth when bright red is the biggest indicator. Rooster hackle/saddle feathers start showing up at about the 10 week mark, but most don’t notice them until 12-13 weeks.

Tail feathers and wing feather growth patterns mean nothing unless specifically bred for them which you won't know if purchased through a feed store.

Nothing I see says cockerel at this point.

This could mean something or nothing but we have four sapphire olive eggers, all 8 weeks old. They all have very pink faces, combs and wattles for their ages and a few people have told me that sapphire breeds tend to develop a little quicker in the comb department because of their eventual floppy comb. Who knows.

I had one that I was convinced was a rooster at four weeks, but now I’m nearly certain it’s a pullet 😅.

I’m of no help but thought that was interesting!
