Jinxed myself, actual missing duck, at least 1 injured. Any help / advice appreciated.

The sutured skin around the injury is probably very stiff which would make it more difficult to move her wing. And even with the pain killer, it probably still hurts.

Glad to see her up and about! And hear that she's drinking well! Hopefully she regains her appetite soon. :hugs
That may be, thank you.

I wanted to ask y’all a few other things, too.
- Would it be beneficial for her to walk around the house?? She keeps looking around outside the bathtub. She could go see the other ducks through glass as well.
- When can she safely swim? I was thinking of waiting a week, or about 4 days from now.

Peppermint seems fine visually and behaviorally. I’m thinking she’ll be alright.

And I thought y’all would like seeing the baby girl in her jacket.

I think you might give Blanca a swim in the bath she is staying in. Clear the bedding out and fill it to 6 inches deep with luke warm water, and supervise her swimming for 10 minutes. If she does ok, she could do that twice a day. She has to be supervised in case she attempts to get out of the bath.

I don't think she is ready to walk round the house yet. I would leave that until she is 7 days post op. Moving around in the bath is good for now.

Glad she is drinking a lot and showing interest in food. Her gullet will hurt so it's unsurprising that she has been reluctant.

Glad peppermint is doing ok. The alpaca baby is cute!

I’m so glad to hear that Blanca is hanging in there and that Peppermint is doing well! Definitely check with the vet before allowing Blanca to swim. Typically, most surgeries require a 2 week period before bathing is allowed, but I’m not sure if that would be the case with ducks…
I get my wounded ducks swimming for a few minutes within a couple of days -- its is psychologically very theraputic for them as well as providing physiotherapy. it woudl be very old fashioned prectice to not let a duck swim for 2 weeks -- a bit like saying a human cannot bath after an appendicectomy or Cesarian Section for 2 weeks! [bathing is allowed the next day]

Blanca ate a good bit of liquid feed. I also got her the peas and lettuce, and she’s somewhat receptive.
She’s been looking at her reflection in the tub spout, and I gave her a chicken plush, which she’s snuggled up to.

I will consider letting her swim tomorrow.. I understand shallow, clean water should be safe, but I am still hesitant with all the mixed opinions I’ve seen.

You might offer her some chick grit as she wont have anything in her crop to digest the lettuce

My only concern was that the sutures they used might be the type that dissolve with time and that swimming could cause them to break down too quickly or that too much movement could cause dehiscence of the wounds. I absolutely agree that bathing provides ducks with physical and psychological benefits :)

4 days since her surgery.
Blanca has made a compromise and tucked her bill into her back feathers.

She went through 2 bowls of sippy soup yesterday! I’ve blended peas, lettuce, mealworms, and the ORS together, and she’s liking it a lot. Still iffy about solids.

She heard the other ducks quacking this morning and has been quacking back loudly.

The vet said no to swimming due to the stitches (some of them are dissolvable), and agreed she shouldn’t walk around too much.
