Kyron Horman - have you seen this boy?

Many people here too feel the family had some hand in it Motherof5boys1girl. He dropped his stuff in his class, toured the science fair with his step mom, then he headed back to his class room down the hallway and she left. He was marked as absent when they did attendance in the class. Step mom found out/was told he wasn't in school all day when she went to pick him up at the bus stop and the bus driver called the school to see if he was there waiting at the school. It is a small school(and close community) of about 300 students. Many are hoping they are wrong, but strongly suspect someone close to the family has committed this crime. Some feel the step mom is hiding something or covering for someone. The community is wishing for the best, but fearing the worst. Many have been watching body language during the few appearances the family has made. If you google Kyron Horman you can find a million articles, photos, and discussions. I just hope we have an answer to his whereabouts soon.

See that's all I ask for... not that ID can't be faked, but at least be willing to ask for it. I have to show ID if I want my kid, so why shouldn't anyone who walks in off the street.

Volunteer wise... here you have to fill out an application that the district (not individual schools) does a background check on... supposedly anything more than a moving violation (parking ticket) will get you a rejection... you can appeal it, but that's what we're told. I've seen parents who had a disorderly conduct when they were 18 not bother filling out the form because they don't want the rejection. But, it's a good thing that someone with theft/fraud can't handle PTA funds, and anyone with any kind of assault (reg or sexual) can't get in... but that's to volunteer... NOT to walk in and get your child, eat lunch with them, etc. I was rather perturbed as a Room Mom to find that the teachers didn't even bother looking at the list of Approved Volunteers at all... and they told us RMs that is wasn't our job... said that the school was public property (and the nearby park too) so really couldn't ban a parent from attending... so... what's the point in doing the check if you'll let anyone waltz right in? Most of the "regulars" are known by everyone... so it's not too big a hassle or anything... but for people who aren't known they outta be willing to ask their name and make sure it's on the list before leaving them with 'their' child or anyone else's.

I'm 100% sure not all schools act this way, obviously since yours doesn't, but it really freaked me out that the staff (secretary, counselor AND principals all said the same) told me "We ARE NOT ALLOWED to ID anyone who claims they're from CPS"

No Allowed to make sure someone asking to be alone with a child is SAFE... not cool.

Wonder what this school's procedure is for visitors... at ours your supposed to sign in and put on a sticker in the office (right by the front -only unlocked- doors... but I've seen plenty who just waltz right in and the staff doesn't say doodly.

And in this case if it was someone they even just sorta recognized as 'family' then they prolly wouldn't say anything.

Whole thing bites the bit one... I hope they find that poor baby.

This is Portland or. for crying out loud there is no reason not to have survalence cameras in all the schools. It's not the size of the school that matters but the size of the school districts . There are always school budget shortfalls but there always has been . The schools always are crying about not getting enough money . I have heard this when my own kids were going to school and my youngest son is now 39 yo. I heard this all through my school days too. They seem to have enough money for cameras in all the high schools to see who is smoking something funny or dealing drugs around the campus. And now a precious little boy is missing. Cameras might have shown what happened. This is truly heart breaking. Many people are praying for a good outcome to this nightmare but it does not look good. Every mom and pop store and major store can afford cameras But the schools can't keep our precious children safe. Very sad.
