Lash egg???

Hm, thats werid... I feel like lash eggs mostly happens to hens that lay frequently and dont get a break- I hope she will make it! My hen started eating and drinking but still very very sleepy, she passed away the night we thought she was doing better R.I.P, wich was really confusing. I hope this does not happen to your hen! Does she stand like a penguin sometimes? Thats a sign of pain. Is she keeping her tail down?

In this picture of her, you can see she is standing like a penguin and her tail is down... If she keeps her tail down that could be, Egg binding, something bothering her it depends, if she stands like a penguin its probably both and pain wich is sad...Hope this helps! Does your hen do this?

No. She has never done the penguin stance. My daughter was up early (I get up at 6 to put chicken feed out but lay down to read and must have dozed off 🤭) and said she heard a lot of bak-bak noises from her. That was after I had given her her morning food/water and crop check. My daughter didn’t know what time she heard it. When I had checked to see if she was ok she was fine and eating, but then ten minutes later would squat a little like she was going to sit down or lay. She did end up laying down, but I still am troubled by it. So, I’m going to keep an eye on it and maybe see if she’s egg bound? Her belly felt normal this morning. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think she is probably egg bound, maybe try a epson soak again but keep her in there for 25-30 minutes? Was she trying to sit on her butt? Or just lay down? Any vets around you that deal with chickens?

She was trying to lay down. Isn’t the lash egg the egg she’s laying though? Is she suppose to lay normal eggs with lash? She realllllly wanted to go outside. Like desperate. She’s so happy to be outside right now. I hate having her inside. I keep her in when it gets too hot or when i can’t monitor her because of the rooster ( don’t want him mounting her right now obviously) and the bully Orpington we have who isn’t head hen but picks on everyone except head hen. She’s been sun bathing, dust bathing, running, bug eating… 🤞🏻

Im not sure, I think that is probably the egg but some of the lash egg may get stuck in her. If she is active thats a good sign, have you ever had a hen do this before?

We had one get sick in a similar way but didn’t know what was happening. Didn’t know enough and vet appointments are a wait. She died before we could put her down. After seeing this I suspected it may have been a reproductive issue or simply a obstruction. She was a production breed. Big. Like her feet were as big if not bigger than most roosters feet. The other bird we got that was just like her died suddenly one night just before bed. We believe her heart gave out. Too much weight for her heart. She was a big girl too. They both had a good life. Prone to bumblefoot though. That was a hassle. Not fun.

She’s been acting a lot better. Even eating feed, scrambled eggs and watermelon. She hasn’t eaten egg or dry feed in days. Yesterday she was eating plantain in the yard. She has way more energy. I don’t see her sleepy or trying to sleep, which is great. I know it bums her out being away from her friends. She’s still down weight (3.1lb). She only weighed 4. Like I said she is starting to eat regular foods again. I’ll have to just keep her around her friends as much as possible to graze and be a chicken 🐓.
