MJ's little flock

It's taking longer to set up the run because I decided to do a few magnet sweeps first. I did one sweep last night and picked up enough to fill a dustpan. I'll do a few more sweeps before allowing access by the pullets.

But I gave them a second sawhorse last night. I placed Bernadette on the new, slightly higher sawhorse and she stayed there.
I'm sure they love the roost choices. I like when they have choices.

Not sure if I mentioned previously but the three older hens are off to see Dr Mark in the morning. Mary is still hiccoughing, but doing much better, so it'll be good to discuss that. Peggy's tagging along for a checkup. Katie is going for a proper check of her reproductive health. All three have been taken off the roost with a minimum of fuss and will be sleeping in the travel baskets overnight. Mary and Peggy are in the big rectangular basket and Katie's in the picnic basket. That leaves Melissa on her own in the run until we get back, around 10.30am.

I've also been de-pooping the pullets' coop and seeing to their food and water. 2 cups of water consumed since last night. And 2 cups of feed, mostly pullet pellets, some crumble, very few layer pellets.

The new sawhorse appears to be working out as a roost with Bernadette the pecky on the old sawhorse and the other two on the new one. I dared to feel their crops and found Bernadette stuffed full, Baby Brahma quite full too, but not enough in the Australorp. I gave her a talking to.
