MJ's little flock

So, how do you find mothering tiny peeps ? Are they making a hell of a mess and getting into mischiefs 🤣 or just being cute growing up ?

I wonder for how long they will need the supplemental heat ? It seems like your temperature are already quite high and don't get too low during the night.

And how is Mary doing ?

Thanks for asking!

Mary gets tired quickly and spends a lot of time sitting down, but she is on her feet a little longer each day. She's also gradually eating more each day. If she continues at this pace, in 2-3 more weeks she will be robust enough to have her implant.

Edie is also thriving. She and Mary are slow eaters, so I like to keep them separate from their friends at dinner time.

The chicks are doing well, they seem to eat, drink, sleep, or climb on things. They do make a lot of mess, I clean up their house three times a day. Also, they seem to play a game of who can be the first to poop in the clean water, which means I change the water 5-6 times daily. I'm on the brink of buying more water dispensers so the turnover can be a little less time consuming. If I had six water dispensers ready in the morning, all I'd have to do is switch rather than wash, refill and replace. On the other hand, the pot plants have never been so well-watered :yesss:

They had a few hours outside today because the weather was delightful. Here's Charlie doing an offended emu pose because a butterfly fluttered up to say hi.

Every now and then I give them something to be astonished about, like a stick or a plastic lid or a few marbles. It gives them something to think about.

Soon they'll be living outdoors in the little coop, out of reach of the hens and with their heat plate in case they need it. It'll give them a little more space to move around and some experiences of the weather. I may put a wire mesh barrier across the door so they can look out at the world. If they're bold enough they can go down the ramp and have dust baths.

Hopefully they'll be ok out there. They should be.
