The youngsters have found the hens' roost is just perfect for their daytime naps. It's easy to access, comfy, and has drinks!

Hopefully they'll soon start using it overnight because I'd like to deep clean and re-bed the little coop for when Ivy goes broody.

Seriously, they're all getting along extremely well now that Katie's no longer broody. The youngsters are only chased when they egregiously break the social norms. Big Comb ate Mary's dinner this evening and was chased for it. That's fair, the youngsters must learn the laws of the jungle. Senior Hen's dinner is not a snack.

Speaking of snacks, I've had to give up on dosing Edie through snack subterfuge. Now I'm putting the liquid anti-inflammatory on the antibiotic tablet, restraining her with a towel, and popping it into her throat. There are a few benefits. It's all over in moments, she's getting exactly the right doses, I can feel her getting stronger, and no one else is cleaning up her drug-coated treats (Blossom ate some cheese with anti-inflammatory on it ). The worst part is that I feel like a traitor for violating her autonomy. Oh well, needs must. She's vastly more energetic, cheerful and hungry, so clearly the medication is working as it should.

The dishwasher gave up on Christmas Eve. It was timely in terms of boxing day sales but a nuisance in terms of not being available at one of the busiest times of the year. The new one arrived and was unpacked yesterday and I installed it this morning, which was much easier than expected! Everyone is delighted that I'm no longer moaning about handwashing the dishes
