My dog is nice

Both of your dogs are beautiful!
Definatly some german shepherd there.
Some folks have trouble with GSD's because of their high prey drive and energy level. But i think with there inteligence, obidence and desire to please you, that with training they are one of the best.
We adopted a 5 year old german shepherd/ lab mix, who was given up because she killed the previous owners turkey. Her name is June. She is one of 3 guardian dogs we have now. She dove for the chickens about 3 times and we sternly corrected her. Now she and the other two can be outside all day without supervision. All day they pratrol the place and chase off varments. I free range my chickens during the day.
June-what a good girl!

In some dogs, the prey drive is just too strong. But, for others, it's workable. For example, I have a retired racing Greyhound. They are trained to chase prey (a fluffy white thing on a mechanical arm). Basically, I told him to leave the chickens alone, and he did. He also ignored the wild turkey that would visit our yard last summer, because I asked him to. I think a lot has to do with the owner's relationship with the dog and trust. But, like I said in the beginning, for some dogs the prey drive is too strong.

It's great when dogs are good around your Poultry :D

Ours is respectful of our birds, even the little quail. We don't leave her with birds such as the quail though because she thinks they want to play at times and she doesn't always realise her standing on them won't end well!

I have three little dogs. Penny, the black dog, is part beagle(according to the vet). She is a bird killer, but after years of training, she just likes to scare the bejeebers out of hens. She waits until they get near the fence, and charges it to see them scatter. I have caught her in the chicken coop with a chicken- no harm to either- so progress there. My Chiweenie Jasper thinks he is a chicken. He pecks around with them. My new addition, Teenie hasn't been tried yet. We shall see.
