Grand Champion is the champion of the whole show
Reserve Grand Champion is the 2nd best bird
Best of Breed is a bird that meets the standard the closest out of its breed ( Ex: cochin bantam)
Reserve of breed is a bird that is the second closest to meeting the standard
Best of variety is a bird that is the closest to its variety standard (Ex: silver pencil)
Reserve of variety is a bird that is the second closest to meeting the variety standard.
Wow okay, so I'm just getting into showing chickens (it's my first actual flock this year so I'm super excited) and this is the greatest thing I've seen since I discovered Howrse all those years ago. I would love to play and help out from the perspective of a newbie trying to learn as I go! I'll bookmark the site till I can get a registration code but yes omg yes!
Thank you. My main species that I show is rabbits, where instead of reserve of breed & variety they do best opposite. So I was a bit uncertain about the winnings.
And Howrse is another browser based animal sim, so if you're familiar with that, this game shouldn't be too different (although on a smaller scale and budget).
I am working on the formulas for chicken breeding right now; the function that makes the baby chicken seems to work, but as of right now there's no way to really access it (no option to breed them), so that will be next.
Here is a list of diseases:
Mareks - usually affects the legs, which results in paralysis, contagious, cull the infected bird
CRD - appears when a mild respiratory infection has not been treated, can be slowed down, but is eventually fatal, highly contagious, either isolate, or cull the infected bird
Leucosis - A disease that pretty much every chicken has a little bit of, can cause blindess, dry feathers, cloudy eyes, not sure if contagious
Mycoplasma Gallisepticum - it is a a disease like CRD, however, can be cured through weeks of treatment, and causes severe breathing problems in the chicken until treated
Aspergillosis - this is caused by a fungus that grows on chicken feed, like the other diseases I have mentioned, this affects the respiratory, it fills the chicken's air sack, so that they can't breathe, and is very hard to remove
The cost per showing a bird can vary, at my fair (which I enter in every year) the entry fee is $7 a chicken. The barn usually provides the feed and bedding, but if they didn't, my guess the total would be about $20 for a 5 day stay out at the fair for your chickens. However, in a bigger show in my state, (it is too long of a drive, otherwise I would enter in that one too) the entry fee is $6 per chicken, so probably about $15 for a 5 day stay provided that the barn has supplies. As I would imagine, the prices vary on how large the show or fair is, and how long you keep the chicken out on the fair or show grounds.
This sounds Awesome @SableSteel!
Can you play if you don't breed or show chickens?
I'd love to breed someday, I understand chicken genetics very well, so this would be a great game for me to get into virtual showing.
