I posted pics of our mini-coop yesterday. So I thought I might as well post a few pics of our main coop as well. The coop was just a storage shed that sits behind the house. I added siding, a new roof and landscaping two years to make it better match the house. Then along came the chickens and the shed was converted into a coop. I added a window to the back of the coop to help with venilation. I also added the chicken door and a screen door for the people door. The screen door will be switched out with a solid door when the temps begin to dip.
The shed is roughly 7' x 10'. The pop door lets the chicken into a chicken yard that is roughly 32'x32' where they can free range. When I am home, the chickens can free range in the backyard as well.
This is the coop as seen from my back door.
The front of the coop. B was standing in the doorway to let everyone know that she is the head chicken in charge. You can see the gate into the chicken yard to the left of the building.
Another view of the coop with a hint of Clinch Mountain in the background.
The back of the coop as viewed from the chicken yard.
An inside view of the roosts.
The nest boxes.
A view of the mechanism that opens the chicken door. I can open the door without having to go inside as I leave for work in the morning.
The chicken coop in relation to the back of the house. You can also see the small deck that once housed a grill but is now the main chicken watching/admiring spot.
Another view of the chicken watching deck and the path leading to the coop.
