Ok, so is it ok to use spray paint on a coop? It would be on the outside, I do not know if that makes a difference. If you can not use spray paint, are there any other paints you would recommend, or anything that you would strongly discourage using? Thanks!

Any time you're painting you'll need to make sure that your chickens are away from the area you're working on and with spray paint even moreso because of the dangers of breathing it.

Is the paint you're considering made for unprimed wood? Is it made for exterior use?

Spray vs brush on of the same type of paint is likely to be considerably more expensive, but if it's made for bare wood and exterior use and you keep the chickens away while you're doing the job and until the paint is fully dry then it should be fine.

You can likely use any paint you want on the outside (even on the inside, providing you give it a few days to off-gas before putting any chickens in there).

The primary problem is one of durability. Even the paints like Rustoleum that are made for outdoor objects won't stand up to the elements the way a good exterior latex will. Saves money in the short run (I'm assuming you already have the paint?) but in the long run, it costs, because you'll have to repaint sooner.

Yes.

I'm a fan of barn paint -- which is made to put directly onto rough, unprimed wood. The color choice is limited, but it does it's job well.

One regular on here recommends Porch and Floor paint for coops because it's intended to take hard wear.

I plan to put porch and floor on the poo boards and the floor of the coop. I did my studio with it...you have to let each coat cure 24 hrs before the next one, but it's tough!
