Please help

Hi, I am new here and would appreciate any feedback more experienced chicken folk can give me.
I have a red sex link that didn’t seem well four days ago. I went to let my flock out and feed them in the morning and she was standing still and puffed up and would not move. She is eight months old. At first, I thought she might be egg bound, but after palpitating and eventually inserting a gloved finger up her vent, no. I removed her from the rest of the flock because I was worried it could be infectious, viral or worms. She has been on fenben for three days (thought worms?)and I have given her colloidal silver daily. She is eating, drinking and seems much improved today (day 4) and is moving around.

OK, the reason for my question. About five minutes ago, I went to check on her and a rather thick veiny meaty thing has come out of her. I am posting pictures and I’m sorry if they are gross. Can anybody help with what this is? She seems very nonplussed about it but I am concerned! It is about 2 inches long and half an inch thick…when opened it is “fleshy inside” (pic 2). It is rather dry and spongy like (no mucous at all).

I would appreciate any feedback please! I am worried about her!

That's lash material, she has a reproductive infection. Unfortunately, high production birds often get them. You can try treating with amoxacillian but usually by the time you see the lash, it's often too late.
She was struggling to lay it, and there's likely more.

Can you cut that open and let us see the inside of it?
Hard to tell if that's Lash Egg (Salpingitis) or a lot of membranes wrapped up together.

Did she perk up once the material was expelled?

If she were mine, I'd begin giving Extra Calcium asap. You can find Calcium Citrate+D3 at stores like Walmart, CVS, etc.
Give 1 tablet daily for 5 days. Just pull down on the wattles, pop the tablet into the beak and let her swallow.
If she has more material or another egg on the way, then hopefully the extra Calcium will help her move that on out a little easier.

If you do have an antibiotic on hand, it may be worth giving her a round to see if that helps with inflammation. Amoxicillin is a good choice. Dosage is 57mg per pound of weight given orally twice a day for 7-10 days. Some folks use Baytril or a Tetracycline.

Thank you both…. I have been struggling to give her extra calcium, but I will redouble my efforts.
Yes she has perked up since she expelled this last night…. She has been really quiet and this morning she is softly cooing away.
I will check out the posted links on the las eggs. Thank you both very much. I am very new to this and really appreciate the help.

This is my thread documenting my experience with salpingitis, aka, lash eggs.

Happily, Pip, the hen in question, is still with us 10 months later. She has not laid an egg since the end of March, and it's fine with me if she never lays another. She may live out her life as a pet.
