Pros and Cons of Brahmas?

Pros:

Sweet laid back, friendly, GREAT broodies, mine lay about 4-6 eggs a week. Great bird. Probably the best overall for farm life. I have neer been attacked by a Brahma roo. Every other breed of mine yes, but not them. They are gentle giants.

Cons:

SQ birds grow sooooooooo sooo slow. My hatchery ones were jsut as speedy growing as the rest. But I got some SQ chicks this year and at 5 months they still half feathered and small.

They will get HUGE though. One day.... lol

Although I breed many birds and breeds. If I had to cut back because of money and could only go with one for eggs and meat. I would surely pick my Brahmas. They are so much better than buff orps.

Thanks , Can some of you post pics of your brahmas next to other breeds (Rocks, Orps, RIRs, ect, ) so I can compare the sizes? I saw a roo one time that wasn't far from being a turkey, LOL.

Here is my 23-week-old Light Brahma next to my Delaware (same age). My Light Brahma is by far the largest of my four - even bigger than the Buff Orpington. She is low-key but I see her challenging the other three for dominance frequently - she "throws her weight around", so to speak.

I can't think of any cons, either. I adore brahmas!

Alright every one is avoiding mentioning Brahmas biggest con. That is their addictive nature. Sure, seems harmless," Hey, why don't we try a few Brahmas?" Your not even aware it's happening. Before you know it you catch you self jonesing for more of them, or a different variety. In some severe cases people have been known to spend an inordanate amount of time and effert following their own twisted dreams. Put the Brahma down and back slowly away while you still can.
