Putting a roof on a chainlink dogkennel coop run

we had bought a 6x10 dog kennel put hardware cloth over the ends , talked to a roofer he gave us some metal roof scrapes that we overhung by 8 inches so rain etc is away from the chickies tied the hardwire cloth to the roof predator proof. now because he gave us 3 different colors but it was free.

We used tobacco bed rails. They come to a point at the top like a roof. Covered them with a tarp and the rain and snow drip off. Have 4 on a 10 x 10 dog kennel. Our fertilizer plant sells them. DH just drilled through the ends and attached to top of kennel.

YES--Gail--Thanks so much for sharing your ideas--I did steal/borrow/plagiarize...well, you get the idea....and am very grateful to you for sharing. Now I have to figure out how to do the same for the very large run we made that attaches to our chicken coop/shed, 12x18 run that's 7'high, must be sloped due to snow...high school football is coming up which means leave early and home late on Friday nights...sigh.

Mine is 12x18 and we used gails idea to come up with what we did. here are a couple pics

I used a dog run as a coop once but I did not want to spend the money on the pipe connecters so I just drilled holes into the pipe of the dog run and stuck the pvc in the holes... Worked fine.

We got a bargain on a 2 month old dog kennel, 10x10 for 75.00. We placed it along the side of the coop, using the coop as the back wall and making the run 10x20. We placed woven, riveted shade cloth, attached to 2x4's along the top. Works great and protects from the abundance of hawks we have while providing shade and ventilation.

I have a 10 x 10 dog kennel as my chicken run, and I know that TSC sells a tarp covering designed for these. However, has anyone built their own roofing frame? I was thinking if I purchased electrical conduit piping, or pvc piping, it might be less expensive, but have no idea how to attach to kennel, etc. Ideas appreciated!

Im Gonna steal some of these ideas also. For the bottom ( to keep gogs in and predetors out ) I've layed & buried 3ft wide strips of wire garden fence or chicken wire around the perimeter to deter digging. That as mentioned will have to be zip tied or wire tied to to bottom of kennel panels.
