I used Ectoline to treat a bad infestation of mites in my chickens back in December. I just treated my birds again last night. This morning I was reading that Fipronil (the ingredient in Ectoline) is absorbed in eggs and can be found in unsafe levels even a year later. Does anyone have any experience with this? How do people test eggs for this? Should I not use my eggs now?

Yes, I found that and now, unfortunately, it’s too late. I have already used it and there doesn’t seem to be a safe withdrawal period.
Well, a quick read of the article...

""Mean fipronil marker residues and established MRLs allowed calculating the withdrawal periods, the shortest being 74 days after topical administration. Such a long withdrawal period is difficult to meet in egg production systems. Thus, the extra-label use of fipronil in laying hens should not be recommended under any circumstances""

FARAD.org is a good place to look for information about approved and unapproved drug use in food producing animals in the USA, and has limited information internationally.
What's good for pets, and humans, is often a bad idea when used in unapproved ways on livestock, including our chickens.
And at least don't send those eggs outside of your household! Your dogs and cats could eat them, as long as you realize that very low doses of an insecticide like this can promote resistance in the insects it is meant to target.

I had read a possible withdrawal period of 120 days, but that wasn’t even guaranteed. I’m usually not this careless with what I do with my chickens and I research everything! I was just desperate for a solution as the mites were even crawling on me. It was horrible! I guess I now have 35 pet chickens with no eggs. I definitely have learned a valuable lesson.
