I’m looking for Huastec. Hatching eggs or chicks. I’m in Southern Ca and obtained some birds that I think were Houstec or mixed with that breed and they are my favorite chickens. Pm me if you have some to sell me or any info.

Lots! It’s primarily the roosters I need to find homes for. There is also one hen I would be willing to part with, but the others I am keeping. These were outcrossed to Pacific Junglefowl x Chilean Passion Fowl for genetic diversity on the rooster’s side, so he is half Huastec. The mother of these birds is a Huastec from southern Mexico.

The dark hen with the crest and beard is the mother. The pullet to her right is the one I can part with.

You have to wonder where the original Huastecs got their fibro black bones. They are called an "ancient" breed but there were no chickens in Mesoamerica before the arrival of Cortez in the early 16th Century. They had already been breeding chickens in Eurasia for many thousand years by then. Black Quechua Olmec was another Mesoamerica fibro breed. They happen to lay pink eggs that look like many eggs from Ayam Cemani (although some AC lay a cream/white egg). So, did the fibro gene arise independently in Mesoamerica, or did Southeast Asian chickens somehow make their way to the Americas?

I have some of the Ponape that came from Yashar, received through RobG7aChattTN. I also got a few birds from Kermit Blackwood for more diversity though I later learned Yashar's birds initially came from Kermit.

I do have Huastec hatching eggs. One of my hens just brooded a clutch so she'll be offline for a while. But yes, I do have them.

I was able to get two pairs from Kermit last fall, my roosters have done their job and the early hatches are now maturing - mostly cockerels!. I would consider sharing one of my hens from previous hatchings with one of the new roosters, perhaps even two pairs - 2 brother cockerels and two sisters I had before the new birds were introduced.
