Hi,

I found so little red thin worms, about 1.5 cm long, in my chickens water today. I was wordering what they were? One of my chickens seem to be under the weather aswell is that to do with the worms and if so how can i get rid of the worms?

Thank you.. I worry about very littlw with my chickens! i have got them out and i think they might be mosquito Larvae.. Thanks again. x

You mentioned that your chicken was badly ill....how is your chicken behaving/what are their symptoms? I likely won't be able to answer any of your questions, but the experienced folks here will be better able to if you give as many details as possible. How long your chicken has been ill, every symptom they have whether it seems significant or not, anything different they may have been exposed to in their environment (including other birds, etc), what they've been eating and drinking, etc.

Good luck to you and your bird!

All 5 of my chickens normally go round as a group and she's staying away from the group often in a corner she's still eating but is thin. She has been eating normal chicken pellets as have the others. She had diarrhoea but it comes and goes. She's been like this for 4 days or so. She has got worse in the last half day and now just sits down and doesn't eat. Her comb has fallen to one side and it doesn't normally do this. I have been giving her yoghurt for 2 days because i've been told that can help fight any bateria infection. She hasn't been anywhere different to normal and she's been going the same places as the others but the others are fine. she's just not acting herself.
Thanks. xx

UPDATED
I've given her 0.5ml of anti-biotcis as she was even worse. She was sat down in a corner not being able to stand up. I've given her water and feed but shes not taking the feed.
The anti-biotics haven't made a difference yet but only gave them to her this morning.
Please any ideas what to do. Any remedies!
Thanks. Daisy. xx

I wonder if she might have a fungal infection? Do you have an avian/livestock veterinarian near you? My rooster was showing somewhat similar symptoms to your hen, but it's hard to tell. Then again, it's hard to tell unless you have a post mortem test done when they die.

Does she sit with her eyes closed a lot of the time? Is she breathing through her mouth? Does she sleep more than she would normally? Can you find any mites on her? Have you wormed your birds? If so, when and with what?

The hard part about all the different illnesses and problems that chooks can have, as I am finding out, is that a lot of them have symptoms that are very similar. :-/

I wormed her yesterday. And im hoping that being wormed and the anti-biotics should help her.
Thanks

Hi Offdagridsoon,
She's sleeping alot more that normal and she just sits anywhere and sleeps. She doesn't seem to be breathing through her mouth. She hasn't got mites that i can see and i have wormed her. We have a vets near by that is for most animals but they are not very good with birds they just give you anti-biotics for anything..
Thanks
Daisy. xx
