Red little worms in water and Chicken ill!* UPDATE *

You might want to bring her inside where you can keep a closer eye on her. Put her someplace cool and dark where she can rest. Have food and water for her, but monitor it to see if she has any intake at all. You can give her some Yogurt, scrambled eggs, etc. to see if that helps perk her up.

Thank you. i will try. 3 days ago i checked her for mites and she didnt have any..
She has a lot of little yellow bugs on her, im off to buy some mites spray!

UPDATE
I got some total mite kill powder and i have put it on all of the chickens to be on the safe side. I checked their bedding for mites and i cant seem to find any but i've cleaned them out total. She has perked up a bit but very very thin and not eating much. I would bring her inside away from the others but she has been ill not for a week ish and the othes have no other signs of becoming ill so im not woried about it spreading to them. She is also happier out there with the others than inside.
She had little yellow bugs on her so im hoping the mite powder will get rid of them. The other chickens seem to have mites but aren't ill. i don't know what to do with her or how else i can do to help her. Any ideas.
Please
Thanks Daisy. xx

The yellow mites you are talking about are probably chicken lice. They suck the chickens blood and if very many can take a chicken down. They will get thin and listless. The dusting you gave her will probably take care of any bugs, lice or mites.

It can take several days for her to get strong. I would give her vitamin and electrolytes in her water. Some use baby vitamin drops. In a pinch even sugar water will help perk them up.

If she is not eating you can force feed her. I cook yolk of egg in microwave. Then cut it into small strips. I hold chicken and pull down on her wattles (under chin) and she should open mouth enough for you to feed her.

I did this last year for a sick tom turkey. I fed him dog food and syringed water down him. I knew he was getting better when he started eating out of my hand! Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you so much. I will do all this.. Is human electrolytes for diarrhoea ok for her?

I checked all there water for them but i only found the worms in one of them this was an old dirty water bucket that had gone green. Thanks. Daisy xx

These little red worms are most likely Midge Worms, which are a fly larve. If a stock tank or swimming pool sits for too long they will get them They are harmless to chickens. I use a 60 gallon stock tank for my waterer. To keep the midge worms and mosquito larve at bay, I placed a couple cheap goldfish in the tank. Within one day there were no signs of larve.

ok. Well from now on im going to only let them drink from the water drinker thats clean not an old bucket just incaseb but Thank you..
