Is there any way to deter them?

Fences. I do have a 3 strand barbed wire fence on the State Forest side but they go straight through it.

That's not an easy solution. I imagine it would be a lot of area to fence in.

It is but, as I discovered last heavy downpour, I have an intermittent creek to deal with as well. Stuff piles up against the fences and the water banks up behind that. It's a lot of pressure. I had to repair the run afterwards.

That certainly adds to the complexity.
