SandHill Preservation review

So sorry this didn't work out for you. I too have an order in with Sandhill. My first date is May 10, with basically the next 5 dates circled after that. Needless to say, we won't be going anywhere this summer.

Well, looks like I'm keeping my order... Here's the correspondence from today:

White Dorkings have not  hit good fertility yet, hopefully next time your order will pull together. After having a mild winter February had a cold spell and lots of frozen combs.

Good morning,
Would I be able to cancel my order? I really like what you guys are doing, but after 6 possible ship dates, it's kind of discouraging.
Thank you!

Sincerely,
Chelsea Gilbert

I really hate email correspondence as you can never tell for sure what people are meaning.  So I am assuming that you are kidding. You have changed your order several times and I am trying to get it as perfect as to what you ordered as I can and  we gave you until May 24. If we cannot by then, then of course we will gladly give you a full refund. When working with many rare breeds that the mainline folks don't care to deal with there are many issues. We clearly spell all of that out in the catalog.  We hide nothing and are as honest and upfront as we can be.  We will hope that all the breeds you want cooperate for 5/10.  I you so desire you may cancel and face a 25 % penalty.   I scheduled you for 4/12 but the  White Dorkings were still not fertile. We use no artificial lights and we let things take there course as per the weather and natural light.  This time I had some  but not yet enough. I cannot just turn a crank and pop out exactly what  I need I am dependent upon many biological factors  as we are not making plastic chicks.

From me to them:
I was feeling rather put off after you mentioned that the white Dorkings were having issues. I automatically assumed that you wouldn't be able to make the 3rd possible ship date of May 10th. I didn't see you mention may 24th, but that is reassuring that there is a projected date. I'm happy to wait as long as there is an expected ship time frame.
I completely understand text versus a real conversation. I'm very free most of the time if you ever need to call for any reason.
Thank you!

Sincerely,
Chelsea Gilbert

I'm so sorry to hear this.  Can only imagine how disappointed you must be. :(

Honestly, I had a trio of day old reds given to me. I was very grateful. But 2 out of 3 died in the first 4 months. I purchased a red Dorking cockerel from the same person, and 2 months later it died from lice (i didn't see them until it was too late). So now I have one red Dorking hen. It's just so frustrating putting in so much work and keep having them die. None of my other breeds are anywhere near 75% mortality...
I really hope the new line from Sandhill brings in some much needed vitality.

I did. Where they told i still wasn't getting white Dorkings but they shipped them anyway... And would refund me for the white Dorkings. I was under the understanding that they'd just cancel my order and refund the whole thing. I honestly am not thrilled...
My husband picked them up from the post office thus morning after I left for work and I'm headed home to see them.
I won't be ordering from them in the future. But this review was for everyone's knowledge. There really hasn't been a lot experience that's been documented from dealing with Sandhill.

Well, no white Dorkings. They "packed" 21 chicks.
5 black Ameraucana
4 black created blue polish
4 blue Ameraucana
8 colored Dorkings

I have 16 chicks that made it here, out of 21. And because they wrote the wrong number on the shipping box, the post office couldn't get a hold of me. 1 more is not likely to make it through the night.
The reason the word packed is in parenthesis is because 2 of the dead chicks were white or buff in color... Not matching anything on my list.
5 dead on arrival...
Why do they require you to have a 25 chick minimum order, but if it's their fault they can't fill your order, they don't put 25 in the box?

As I said previously, I'm not real thrilled. Here's my cute little fluffy butts though :) the white ones are my buff and white Ameraucana chicks. The rest are from Sandhill.

I have ordered from Sandhill about ten times. I have had a great experience each time. I do understand that each order I need to be flexible on shipping dates as well as breeds. I always point out on my order which breeds I need to have and which breeds I will accept substitutions and I indicate the substitutions I like. I just received my 2016 order on the date they indicated. I received the Dorkings I really wanted but accepted subs for the Javas and received Brabanters as I indicated.

May I ask what color Javas you ordered? My first two dates have passed, just waiting on the last two, I suppose. I ordered 10 Mottled, but did say that 5 could be subbed.
