Sebastopol Goose Incubation and Candeling

Hi everyone, I am on day 7 of incubation my Sebastopol geese eggs. This thread is for others to post their candeling pictures I’ll be posting mine every few days. I have never incubated eggs before and decided to start with the expensive Sebastopol goose eggs because I am impatient and didn’t want to lose this breeding season to practice on cheaper eggs. I went on eBay and saw that someone selling these eggs lived 15 minutes from me so I got very luck and got fresh unshipped eggs. My eggs were put in incubator day 3 after laying. But I am a little lost my Candeling looks different then I usually see there pictures are of 7 day incubation. Are my babies alive? I think so but now doubt is creeping in. Egg weights on day 7 were Egg 1: 187.5 G Egg 2: 197.3 Egg 3: 185.7 G

Hi and ! I know nothing about candling eggs, especially goose eggs, but this link describes what to look for:

In my unknowledgeable opinion all three look like they're alive, but hopefully someone more experienced will be along to help soon !

The pictures are hard to tell but I am seeing veining.
Positive signs
First sign is usually around day 5 the yolk will be visible and pronounced during candling
second sign is about day 6 a little red dot once you see the dot you will know it was fertile
third sign day 7-10 is healthy veining developing. you will know then if you have a healthy embryo.
These 2 pictures are from 2 eggs in my present hatch on day 7 the first one has good veining the 2nd one just started veining today. the reason for the difference is the age of the eggs and when they were laid. there are 5 different eggs all from the same girl all are fertile but all are in different stages of development. Unfortunately I can’t post videos! But all three eggs have a goose that swims around when I candle! I had a great video of one egg the little guy doing flips. So far 3/3 for these purchased eggs. I do have a small piece of paper towel under each egg angling blunt ends slightly up. I started cooling and misting on day 6. I have my humidity at about 30 degrees and my incubator isn’t an expensive one so the temp ranges from 98.8-99.9(kenonix). I increase my humidity in the incubator before I goto bed because in the winter night time tends to be more “wet” if they were being sat on outside. So far they’ve lost two grams in 2 1/2 days since last candling. Which is exactly on track if they lose a gram a day they’ll hit their target of 15% weight loss.

Your air cells are looking good. Im not one to weigh I look at air cell development. Im day 14 on Friday will try to send a photo

So cool when you can see them swimming around! Looks like you’ll have some babies soon hopefully. I’m on day 20 and I have some crazy good videos I will try and get some better pictures of day 20! I’ve been weighing meticulously, and watching a chick called Albert YouTube. I think the weighing gives me encouragement that they’re growing, seeing them all lose about the same weight each day now always between .8g and 1.5g every 24 hours. They’re only 5g from 10% weight loss then I’ll feel good about them making it to hatch!

Egg weights day 20: egg 1-174.3 egg 2- 184.6 egg 3-172.1
Goal weights for these eggs are roughly: 166, 174, and 164. If the eggs eg within 3 grams of these weight on day 28 I should have optimal exchange of gasses and air cell size. With 7 days until lockdown and final weigh in if they lose 1g a day I’ll hit that goal. All eggs still have movement. There is one egg with a very dark red chorioallantoic membrane, Pete’s guide said this may not be good for gosling respiration inside the membrane, so keeping an eye on that. My turning has been lazier last 5 days but I always hit at least 3 turns a day. I also forgot about my eggs twice when cooling once for an hour and another time for 40 min, but maybe that just simulates a mother goose not having a sense of time in the wild? Idk my house is usually 72 so it didn’t kill them.

Looks like your doing good. as they get older they do make there own heat so Im sure your doing good. Mama goose will leave her nest for longer times latter in the hatch. They will be hard to candle soon. mine are presently filling about 1/3 of the egg but next week will begin to fill it so wouldn't be able to see much. Looking forward to seeing your goslings. Mine hatch around day 31 so my hatch date should be around the 11th. But could come earlier. They are small eggs from a first year hen who still has a bit of white chinese in her genetics.
