Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

LOL just checked and it is much lighter, uuuuugh LOL I think I will keep it just to see what it feathers out to be

I would! You never know - and they change SOOOOOOO much with each new set of feathers!!!! I have one that I still don't know what color she is. Her name is "Little Green Head". She has had a green head and pink wings at times. Right now she has almost light freckles on her wings. I have asked and asked and no one has even attempted guessing a current color on her.

I recently had a silkie chick hatch from a black hen and a blue split roo and was wondering if someone could tell me if it is a black chick or a blue? The roo was a dark blue and because this one has a very light belly I'm thinking it is a blue as well. Are black chicks hatched jet black or do they have something light feathering in there as well?

I posted this chick a month ago when it first hatched. Look at it now. Is it a Lav?
I've noticed not too many respond to this thread....what are the parents? Looks lavender to me, however I had two lightly colored chicks hatch that I thought were going to be self blue and ended up being splash. They are just now getting their "spotted" markings in.

It came from a mixed pen with a lav, blue, splash, white and porcelains in it. It will be 5 weeks old on Wednesday

Mine is 15wks old and just recently started getting the splash markings in its feathers. Once yours gets to that age, if its still the solid color it is now, I'd say yea it looks lavender. If it starts getting the splash markings the its obviously a splash.

I hear ya. I may run into that problem next year. Right now I have my Silkie coop/run that consists of my lavender hen and roo, two frizzle hens and a splash chick that isn15wks that I believe is a cockerel. I'm leaving him in there because as of right now they're getting along. And I'm hoping to start collecting eggs soon from my lavender pair seeing as how they are 5 months old. No eggs yet but at least I'll know that when she does start laying, if they are fertile they can only be fertile from the one roo.

How did it look when it first hatched? All my true lavs backs are faintly striped with lighter blue on hatch. The ones that are completely solid turn out to be splashes, and it can certainly take quite a bit of time for the splashes to develop.
