Sorry this is not related to this thread but what are the air sacs used for? Like cushioning?
Good question!

The air sacs are a major part of the respiratory system.

This video is one of the best I've found explaining the respiratory system - it's fascinating.

I think I know what’s wrong with my girl!!!! I think it might be depluming mites! Which ironically, I’ve never dealt with before. I got very lost deep googling!! You can’t see depluming mites, not like the mites I’ve experienced before. These are tiny and burrow under. I’m treating her and hopefully see a huge turn around. Never had to deal with this before, out of 80 chickens she’s the only one. When it rains it pours though.

What are you treating her with?

Let us know how she's doing.

She’s still in chicken hospital away from the others and where I can keep an eye on her. She’s getting a dose of aviverm and I’ve coated her in some DE. I read that depluming mites are microscopic and they burrow into the feather follicle and skin so I wanted to try an internal and external treatment. She’s doing much better today! She isn’t scratching as much, there isn’t any panting! I’m so happy 🥰🥰🥰 can add “depluming mites” to something else to keep an eye out for 😅

Aviverm is Levamisole, it's a good dewormer.

DE, Diatomaceous Earth, will not treat Depluming Mites since they do indeed live under the feather follicle. If I were going to treat Depluming Mites, I'd use Ivermectin.
