I put a cat tree in the barn for the feral cats and my chickens kicked the cats off then took it over. My chickens LOVE that cat tree.

I walked out the back door this summer to see all of my chickens in a semi-circle in the alert position (head up, neck stretched) facing the back corner of my property. I thought what the heck??

I looked over and saw that they were staring down a black cat that had climbed over the fence and was staring back at them. Fortunately, the chickens were all full grown, so there was minimal risk. Cats are notorious small bird killers, so I'm happy they were standing up to it like that.

I chased it off so the encounter was over quickly.

Oh, pictures, please! Is it carpeted? Are you worried about the chickens' claws getting caught in the carpet? How do you clean it? Do they leave eggs there?

I can get pictures when I go out to do chores. It is covered in a faux fur and no they don’t seem to have any issues with their nails getting stuck. They all snuggle into the fur on all three levels at night. As for poop I just brush it off every once in awhile. They mainly just use it for roosting at night so there isn’t much poop if any on it.

That's a really good idea. I used to have a cat tree back when I didn't have chickens, but I got rid of it on FB marketplace

As you can see from the bottom right one sitting at an angle it has reached max capacity they have plenty of roost options, but no they want the cat tree.

Chickens close their eyes for a cuddle.

One time during the day the moon was out, I was amazed to see a hen look up at it, I think she was thinking about if it was edible.
