Stinky Acres Farm

Chickies are here! These are Swedish Flower Hens! I know, I know, they are not what I originally ordered....those chicks will be coming later this month. But I couldn't resist when I found a local breeder offering this rare breed!

It's been 8 years since I've had chicks this young! Looking forward to seeing what awesome colors and patterns these will have.

Awwwwwww

Took the Swedish Flower chicks out on their first outing in the coop today since it was warmer. They are some of the most curious, bold, and friendly chicks I've ever had. They all hopped up onto me to get treats (just chick feed ) and one almost fell asleep on me. I haven't even spent that much time with them! I let my oldest hen in to meet them and the two chicks I think are cockerels challenged her, staring her down and pecking her beak! They're only 3 weeks old! 😲

I'm sorry now I didn't get photos. Next time!

I would love some input on this!

Thinking about permanently moving the Swedish Flower chicks out to the coop tomorrow with a panel heater (Sweeter Heater). The highs are in the low 60s (°F) and lows in the high 30s.

They are 3 weeks old and seem to want nothing to do with their heat lamp in the brooder right now which is set at about 77°F. They are staying on the cool side of the brooder which is probably about 70°F. I've never had chicks stay away from the heat lamp so early!

Thoughts?

I say give it a try. They have a heat source if they need it.
