Chicks are having a blast in the coop. Hope they can stay warm tonight!
I think the two chicks on the right are cockerels. What do you think?

Toasty Bernice is very interested in the chicks and vice versa.

There were two blue eggs in the nest box today..That can mean only one thing - my 9-year-old EE, Toasty Bernice, is laying! 😮 I thought she had completely stopped after she developed what appears to be gout. But she has been on tart cherry extract capsules for a year now and she's noticeably improved despite still having swollen feet.

Six more chicks arrived yesterday! Two Easter Eggers, two Olive Eggers, and Two French Black Copper Marans! 😁 Not gonna lie, I was preparing for dead or dying chicks after hearing about all the hatchery and postal service problems lately. But they are all here and look healthy so far.

I used cheap kiddie pools previously, but they kept leaking because the plastic was really thin and fragile around the patterns that are stamped in them. They were also not very deep.

My new design uses a 16-gallon concrete mixing tub with a sink drain installed in it and a hose connected to that to keep most of the water away from the area to prevent a muddy mess. So far it is working well.

While I was at the home improvement store staring at these tubs wondering if they'd work for a duck pool a complete stranger came up to me and asked what I was planning on making. I asked him if he thought these tubs would work and he said if it's made for concrete it must be strong enough for a duck pool. Then out of nowhere he says, "You know what? I'm so confident I'll buy it for you!" and he hands me cash. Thanks to this kind man my ducks have a nicer pool.
