Suprelorin implant for rooster chick?

I have 2 silkie chicks and one is a rooster from blood test. I want to avoid agressive behavior and Caponizing is out of the question.
I am in USA and am not sure the laws or where I could find it online.
He is a house rooster ESA pet. He is 6 weeks old today.
Any ideas or websites to help me?
Hi there. :frow

Why is caponizing out of the question? Just curios as I am here to learn also. :pop

As far as I can tell your method in question is only approved for use in ferrets in the US...

Looks like it also has may have to be repeated regularly and may become less effective with time.

The majority of cockerels I have raised were indeed NOT aggressive. But the ones who were (Stew Pidasso's) were showing signs by six weeks old... including biting the hand that reaches in to feed it.

I suspect crowing may be more of a reason than aggression for an "ESA" house rooster be addressed in this manner... Plenty of folks keep cockerels and roosters with no aggression issues. Consider re-homing the pullet to keep his behavior in line, maybe.

Seeking the advice of an avian vet is truly the best advice given! :thumbsup

Hope it works out for you! :fl

Pics always welcome! ;)

Maybe find a home for the rooster and get another hen? Roosters don't make the best indoor pets, and there's no long term solution to keep it from crowing. ( that doesn't involve altering him, which I really don't care for)
Plus you have a chance of ending up with peepers with a roo and a hen. :jumpy

Hey all I found an avian vet who does the procedure and says that as long as the procedure is done before puberty, it is usually successful for the crowing and aggression. Only side effects are weight gain if not controlled. I will update later on
Did you do it? I am thinking one of my little silkies is a rooster and my son is attached to it. How has it worked out? How much was the cost? And it lasts one year?

Hi! Have you seen a difference in your roos crowing? I have to admit that I miss my roos (the township approved the hens, just not the roosters) but if they weren't going to fertilize eggs for hatching I wouldn't want to keep them... Of the 5 I had, only 1 was aggressive. After 4 months of being attacked relentlessly he went to another home. My roos were Bielefelder, French Black Copper Marans, Cream Crested Legbar, True Blue Whiting. I replaced the Aggressive CCL roo with another CCL. Hope you keep us updated! :fl

UPDATE !!

So both my male silkies I keep together have had the implant for more than 3 months.
I paid for anesthesia and implant and labor for both Chickens and it turn out to be around 600$. A pretty penny LOL

Results are less than a miracle, but who was asking for one?
Crowing ----> Charles my white silkie still crows often. I usually keep the blinds closed and he wont crow until around 10am when the sun peeks through. Then after his morning crows I'll let them back into the yard for the day. Murphy is my black silkie mixed with something I'm not sure of. (That's for another thread) :clap He has crowed before a few times, but I guess Charles is higher in the pecking order. I've only heard him crow twice.
Aggression---->Murphy and Charles both show signs of aggression towards each other but in a healthy way to establish the pecking order. It's never more than a few kicks to the face. LOL Charles also shows a little aggression towards me when we are out in the yard but its harmless. Just the occasional walking sideways towards me in a funny way and sqwaking a bit. When I come closer t grab him to come back inside he submits easily. I guess its a Silkie's nature to be sweet anyway. Murphy is never agressive towards me and actually is one for a cuddle. ♥ To add, I have read online that if they shouldn't fight if there are no hens to fight over.
Physical Development---->Neither Charles nor Murphy have grown significant spurs on their feet. Their waddles are not significant either.

So there you have it!!

Hi! I was wondering if you have any long-term updates. I have at least one silkie chick I'm pretty sure is a male and I'm looking at options for keeping all my chicks as pets in an area that doesn't allow crowing roosters.

Did the crowing continue, and did your roo get the implant before or after he first started crowing? At what age did they get the implants? Are they aggressive towards each other?

Thanks!!
