Tape worms, I Believe?

No, that has metronidazole in it.

You would not use that one.

You need to repeat in 10-14 days.

I have some powdered praziquantel. Let me see where we got that from.
Was I supposed to dose the Equimax twice, or only once?
I did Zimecterin Gold, and saw more tapeworms about 2 ¹/² - 3 weeks later and did a dose of Equimax 22 days after the Zimecterin Gold.

I think I need to clarify some things.

The medication needed to treat tapeworms is praziquantel.
  • The dose is no less than 10 mg/kg, no more than 20 mg/kg
  • Give once & repeat in 10-14 days
It doesn't matter what the product is, it must be given twice 10-14 days apart.

Ideally, we would use something with *just praziquantel* in it, like Droncit for cats or dogs, but it's expensive. The cat product has three pills, the dog product has five pills.

A five-pound chicken would get one pill, then another pill in 10-14 days. Not including tax, that's *$14* to treat *one five-pound chicken*.

Equimax is $21 at Tractor Supply, and if I did the math correctly, one tube will treat 20 five-pound chickens at two doses each.

Ok, I didn't know I should use the Equimax twice, now I know!
Should I still dose twice now, considering I dosed twice 22 days apart?

For the treatment in the water, do you by chance know the answer to any of my previous questions?

I would.

What questions?
Ok, thank you!

Do you know any specific product for dosing in the water? Like a specific powdered praziquantel product?

Kiki recommend one, and it says to put it in 10 gallons of water & 48 days apart (obviously that's for fish).

Do you know if that product is a good choice, or know of a better one?

And if so, if I have 150 lbs of flock weight (53 birds), how much dose in how much water?

I see a poop with worms, but can't identify who it is.
I also see a bunch of wet poops.

Here you go. Simply follow the instructions on the package, it's that easy:

It doesn't show the back of the product.
I'm assuming that 1 teaspoon per gallon is for a certain amount of bird (ie: pounds). What about for 150 pounds of birds?
How many teaspoons for that many pounds?

I'm thinking I might need more than 1 bag of powder to do that many birds?

It says treat for 2 days, ideally on an empty crop, how do I do that?

Also, is that dose new each day for 2 days, or that 1 dose sitting in the water for 2 days?

It also mentions, not for birds that you eat their eggs. I'm guessing that doesn't matter, and 14 day egg withdrawal is the answer?

And I see, give it 21 days apart, not 10-14 like normal. Is that correct?

The one teaspoon per gallon of water is for all birds regardless of weight. Make a fresh batch on the second day.

You want to worm your birds early in the morning before they feed. They will be thirsty from being cooped up all night and will readily drink the treated water.
Then wait three hours before feeding your birds. This will give time for the wormer to do its job and give stragglers a chance to drink the treated water.

Correct; egg withdrawal is 14 days.
Reworm the birds on the 21st day per instructions.

Oh wow, ok! Thank you!!
Ok, so then to worm my 150 lbs of birds, I give 1 teaspoon per gallon regardless ... how many gallons should I give. Only the amount they would finish off in a day?

How often should I treat my birds with this considering that I have tapeworm eggs in my environment, and a good amount of bugs? Obviously, I don't want the worms to build up a resistance.

Also, out of curiosity, why would I want to use Equimax if I could use this product instead? I hope that doesn't sound rude, I'm just curious, since this product is much easier to use?

Thank you so much!

1. YOU have to estimate how much water your birds drink in ONE day, then dose accordingly. Take in consideration your daily temps.
2. Only treat birds that show tapeworm segments in feces if possible. With that many birds, you might have to worm all of them.
3. I recommend using Permethrin liquid concentrate and spray areas where bugs are located, where your birds forage. Keep your birds penned after spraying your property. Add sand in your pens and inside coops. It will deter insects and keep everything dry.
4. You were looking for something easier to dose all your birds other than having to worm your birds one at a time with the Equimax.
5. Have you started worming your birds yet? If not, that's more
proglottids shed onto the soil and they will release hundreds of
eggs to infect your birds.
