The Moonshiner's Leghorns

No way!

Only thing I was sick of this year is getting so many roosters hatch :th

Out of 30 sebrights hatched .... I got 5 pullets!
Oh yes way! lol I love the little fuzzy butts, but by end of Summer to early Fall I am more than happy to turn the incubators off.

Wow, only 5 pullets out of 30 is horrible odds! I'm sorry. :( We have certainly had years like that. I hope you get more pullets next hatching season. Can you keep lights on your breeders and keep them laying through fall/winter?

I know right!

I literally just have a pen full of nice bright red combs

So.... anyone want a Sebright rooster or 3 or 16?
Can you even eat a Sebright? They are a smaller bantam breed, correct? We eat all of our surplus cull roosters, but when they are tiny and lean like bantams they aren't much worth butchering. Maybe sell them off as breeders or pets?

My Brown Leghorn hatching eggs shipped today. They are coming from WV and shipped USPS so they aren't due to arrive until Thursday. Hopefully they all arrive intact and I get at least a few chicks from them. They are from an excellent bloodline so I'm pretty excited about them.
:fl

Yeah I'm sure you could eat them.... is it worth the time and money to process them... probably not...

They are very small and lean.

They are very cool looking little roosters. You may be able to sell a few? What do you normally do with surplus bantam roosters? I had a ton of OEGB roosters at one time. They make great pets. 🥰

Because they are reasonably rare here I'm trying not to just dispatch them.

The only positive is that I can choose the best ones for breeding next season. There are definitely 2 that I'm keeping. So next season I will have 3 separate breeding pens so I can share the genetics around.
