The Old Folks Home

It actually got up to 50 here today. Of course tomorrow it's only going to be 28 but I did see a bunch of temps in the high 40s/low 50s down the line so maybe November temps in Dec since we had Dec temps in Nov?

Mother nature can be such a witch child when she sets her mind to it.

Our tv in our family room decided to go on the blitz. After two and a half days of searching for a replacement on line we chose a 58 inch Hisense Roku tv with the idea of replacing our 50 inch in the living room with the bigger set and moving the smaller to the family room.

Got it today. I swear you have to have a PhD in software engineering to program one of these monsters. Am I showing my age? Unfortunately, yeah. Told DH that we needed to out to the road, find the dumbest little, electronics challenged Amish kid, drag them inside and have them set the silly thing up. They would probably do a better and faster job than we are doing.

I imagine I will have to contact customer service before all is said and done as we can't get it to save the programming for local antenna channels.

Remember when we had 3 stations to choose from and had to get up off the sofa to change the channel?

Ah for the good old days.
I do remember those days! We had two network stations and one pbs. One of the stations was cbs and nbc so we never did get all of there shows.

Good morning OFs, I too recall those days - our TV was black and white and yes, someone was always jumping up to change the channel and consequently, moving the antenna ears around for better reception. Geez I'm old, dang!

Wish I could send you all some of our sunshine. It's in the mid sixties today and sunny, SW wind vs. northerly gale force wind we've had lately. Going below freezing again in a few days then up to 80 for one day. This weather is roller coaster all over the place.

I guess I need to get in the spirit of things and unpack the garage to find the Christmas decorations. Need to make another pot of coffee for that work. Have a good day everyone.

DH got up this morning before I was up and attacked the new TV. He finally defeated it...we think. Last night it didn't want to save the local antenna stations when we programmed them in. He finally got it to save the stations...doesn't know why it decided to do it finally but glad it did.

Otherwise once we get used to the operating system I think we will like it. Which proves you can teach old dogs new tricks, lol.

Roku tv is fairly easy to use.

Yeah, we had an account with them some time ago. Liked it, just didn't want to get a dongle to upgrade at the time due to our crappy internet service. This tv has built in Roku so we are once again enjoying it.

We read some reviews after the fact that said that it wasn't unusual for ROKU TVs to have 'glitches' that made it hard to program in antenna based stations.

Ours seems to be working at straightening up and flying right as the saying goes.

Should I ever lose hubby, I will probably ditch the :duc TV. I could live without it, no problem. We have an antenna, some little box gizmo thingie, and no bill.
We had Direct TV for a few years. Ditched the dish about 8 years ago and never looked back. We can get 9 stations on the antenna and there are options on this tv to subscribe to different services like Netflix but we won't. If it ain't free, we won't watch it.

We had Dish and also DirecTV. When the bill hit $165/month, I said that's it. We got an antenna, the box gizmo thingie, and if that doesn't bring it in, we aren't watching it.

With everything moving to a streaming platform, I see a day when we won't bother with any movies. Hubby better buy what he wants to see while it's still on DVD. And if it's new, go to the theater. I haven't seen any ads for ANY movies that interest me. And don't get me started on the current TV shows. :tongue
