The Omega Rocks: The Last & Ultimate Barred Plymouth Rock Flock

I'm very thankful I don't have anything in an incubator. We are in the middle of a big ice storm that has been going on for a day and a half and supposed to continue into tomorrow. No power since sometime last night, I know it was off at 2:00 a.m., on it 4:00 a.m. briefly and off again since.
That's why my Kodiak was at the ready. We have power outages here all the time, for what seems like no reason, generally. Mountain power is that way.
Congratulations - well done!
Thanks, it was a combination of factors and just all came together for a successful hatch. I was prepared for some not to hatch, but I guess this is for all the times it was not so successful. Sure made up for those!

I can’t wait for photos 🥰

I have a great generator, however something went wrong with it and the ground wire suddenly turned bright red and started smoking. I doubt it will get cold enough to be an issue for me, but it sure would be nice to have the furnace and the water on.
Oh no! That’s terrible! So sorry to hear this, hopefully it’s an easy fix, gennys are so handy to have. The one I have runs the house and barn, cuts in when the power is out for more than 5 seconds. I needed this as I worked out west in the oil fields and could be gone for weeks at a time.

One yr my poor BIL was running between his place and mine making sure out basements didn’t flood during one ice storm - 3 days he did this - his genny died so he was using the portable one I had then between our two homes.

When I got home I said that’s it no more crap like that! Put in this one and it’s awesome! And now with the chooks even more important. The horses can handle -30 temps but the chooks not so much. And I can’t really lock them away in the hen house for days on end to keep warm.

And then there is the whole eggs and incubator thing! Who knew chickens could be as stressful as horses 😳

I have several short videos on my YT channel, one I think I posted on the thread, but here are some screenshots.

Well the chickens are on their own, I have never provided any supplemental heat once they are older than 6 weeks. And while the temperature might fall into the upper 20s, at least it won't freeze inside the house. I'll have to see if I can get the generator situation fixed tomorrow. Our weather warning was extended until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, and the roads are covered with slush so once the temperature drops tonight they are going to go back to solid ice. The only thing I hate worse than an ice storm is a tornado.

Yup, just released this video about that subject featuring these little heathens. its not just the head spot, but the shade of down as well as the leg fronts (dark wash down the front or not). And some head spots are not that easy to judge. Check it out, Kelly.
