Exactly. It all depends where you are and what you're used to. But even if I'm used to frigid conditions it doesn't mean I like it! Or the birds do!

Just spread out some more straw over the frozen ground and snow for the poor things. They were quite thankful. It also gives them something to dig through and entertain themselves with. As soon as the straw was down, the ducks started flapping to make it fly around!
I spread ½ bale of fresh straw in the dux-house yesterday and around 5pm the distinctive »fresh straw sisters!« dux-purr could be heart from inside. They were so happy!

Happy
Sneaky Sun Saturday 😲
to Everybody!

As the Romanians would say: "Sun with teeth" here today. A lot of sun but temperatures below the freezing mark, -4° (25F) and that sun is just deceiving what bad things are coming to us here. When that winter-storm is done, Kansas will be named Cannotsas, Missouri will be renamed to Misery, Kentucky will be Cannotucky and here will be Lost Virginia…

yes, temps are in Celsius. I still have not found the fast-forward to March button ⏩
Forecast is up to 10" of snow here, followed by ice and then rain…
Ryan Hall is calling it »Major Winterstorm« - I have no clue about ranks, but even if it would be »Four Star General Winterstorm« i don't want him here! Stay away! 😝
I have the same forecast about the 10 inches of snow. I just hope we don't lose power as I just got a call from the power company saying we might. I hate it when that happens.

Not so worried about the snow forecast here, but a quarter of an inch of ice puts enough weight on the power lines to make them snap like wet spaghetti…

Yes I know, our power company has already called me warning me that we may lose the power because of this storm coming. I just pray that we all stay safe and don't lose it. Our weather sure seems to be very similar and I am always surprised when I talk to Miss Lydia how hers is oftentimes like our weather too.

How I solved the too-tall heated rubber bucket problem.
First, I put some bricks down around it then I put the squares of fake grass over those, but I didn’t know how long they would last because the ducks kept biting at the grass and I didn’t want them to get a tummy full of fake grass so I took a huge black beach towel and put it over all the grass squares and bricks and tucked it in nicely which worked well until it got icy and slippery so I dumped some sand on it. It’s working great for now.
Then I noticed tiny little feathers stuck to that heavy metal handle so I took a roll of Vet wrap to it.. we’ll see how long that lasts..

And PS I did not use duct tape because I had a bad experience with it around the ducks once in the past. My son had used duct tape around his window, air conditioner, and a sticky square of ductTape fell down out the window on top of the back of one of my ducks and taped Her wings together ! honestly pretty ridiculous how that happened the duck was duck taped.

(Before the black towel and sand and Vet wrap) that’s noodle and sugar there. No wait—- it’s noodle and Pidge!
Oh white ducks! Why are you all look so alike?

Don't worry about the fake grass ending up in the duck stomaches: They will splash the warm water all around and that will form a solid block of ice which you won't be able to remove (including the bucket) from the duck run until ~July…
