Things you wish you could say

Getting ready for a spa day with big man. It's the only way I'll be able to clean off all of the blood and treat his eye wounds. He wasn't tolerating any of that yesterday.

So, unlike his wife, Swifty hated spa day. He loved getting an egg and my sister gave him the smallest little blob of white cake, and he inhaled them both. And now we also know that tiny confined spaces do not stop a rooster from crowing inside the house. 🤣 I've left him in a dark warm room downstairs so he can rest. He'll get to come out at chickie dinner time and get some exercise and have some dinner; he has food and water in the crate with him now, but he's still not fully willing to get himself up and moving. His right eye is thoroughly swollen shut, and his left eye is slightly swollen. I got a lot of the blood off of him, but he was actually squaring off against me when I tried to touch his wattles and beak. I assume they hurt. So I used the chicken spray on his wounds. I have zero idea what I'm doing, but he seems quite happy to be inside and away from Peeps. I'll keep him in the crate tonight, too, but have him back in the coop. I don't know... Full steam ahead, and hope I'm doing at least something correctly. 😅

Sounds like what I would do too. Check for wounds, that's the only thing I would suggest

And you can put triple anti ointment in the eye if you think it needs it

Thank you! 🤗🙏🏻 I will get some of the ointment if the swelling doesn't go down. So far it just seems swollen; it's gotten this way before, but not to the point that it is actually all the way closed. I can see where Peeps' claw dug a gash into it, but it's healing nicely. It's already scabbed over. He has a few minor wounds, and I've cared for those. I have to check his crop tomorrow morning, though, just to finish off his exam. I checked him during bathtime, and his legs, wings, underwings, back, neck, and chest all seem fine. Again, though, the crop seems a bit off. But I'll check him tomorrow to be sure. He does keep leaking stringy, mucousy type fluid from his beak, but he doesn't stink, he eats well, drinks, and acts like a normal, though injured, roo would. I think he's just struggling because of how big he is in comparison to the crate. Tomorrow I'm taking him out to comingle a bit, but I'll be in the run the entire time, and Peeps knows better than to cross me, especially after yesterday. I feel bad that the Amazon dude had to be right there while I was screaming at Peeps and threatening the safety of his neck. I didn't know Amazon was coming. 😅 The swelling in his other eye went way down a few hours after I sprayed the vetericyn or whatever it's called. And I got the blood out of his nostril. I also realized just how big this bird is: If my bathtub hadn't been wet and made of whatever slippery plastic it's made of, Swifty would've been able to just step up and out. He almost did, but I caught him and flopped his butt back into his spa. 😂 I really don't think I have to worry about culling Peeps, as he's half the size and Swifty tends to hold grudges. Seriously. This bird is my spirit animal. 🤣🥰❤️

The co-mingling is going poorly. I put out the call to my brother to cull my small rooster, but because he knows that that would completely destroy me mentally, he suggested crating the little one rather than the injured one, and we're going to try the Pinless Peepers... So long as his nostrils are wide enough to fit them. Trying everything so that death is the absolute final solution. Sometimes I need someone with a cooler head than I. 🙏🏻

If he only has a problem with other roosters, you can try rehoming him. Dunno how much luck you'll have as it can be difficult to find a home for an extra roo, but it's worth a shot. Unfortunately when 2 roos don't get along the only real solutions involve removing one from the flock as they will more likely than not eventually fight again

I know now. Yes, everyone here had said it to me many times. No, I didn't heed their warnings. Yes, I've learned from it. Now, unfortunately, no one I know will cull him (my brother said no this morning) because the rooster is too old to eat, and no one will kill it just to make my life easier (which is not what I wanted, at all). Everyone in my family is trying to help me find him a home, my brother crated him for me and he's right now enjoying some inside time. We're going to try the Pinless Peepers. If that fails too, then I guess my unemployed ass is going to need to find a way to get a whole separate run/coop. 😬😔😭

I see. You do have a few options if no one else will cull him. 1. You can do it yourself if you can bring yourself to do so. No one likes having to cull but it is necessary sometimes. Broomstick method is the simplest and least bloody way to do it. 2. See if there's a processor in your area as they can cull him for you for a fee. 3. Have a vet put him down. This is the most expensive option but many vets will put a bird down for you even if they don't normally see poultry. If you decide to try one of these things, set a hard date to find a home for him by and cull him as soon as possible once that date arrives

I wish you luck no matter what you decide
