I was tractor-beamed into TSC today (helpless against the force-field of CHICK DAYS). I also have 2 relentlessly broody Silkies and I’m concerned about roosters.
So—when I saw one Olive Egger chick that looked like she was fading, I decided to try to save her & bring to my broodies.
Broody #1 (Jessica) accepted all four chicks. Broody #2 (Christine) did not want those bin babies. (I was going to give each hen 2–no dice.)
The gray, fluffy chick has rebounded after meeting her new mom & eating raw egg yolk. I’ve always ordered from Meyer Hatchery or Cackle—never Hoover’s.
I’m curious about what their adult feathers will look like. Gray girl looks like a Marans cross, imo, if she is really an Olive Egger. (That was what the bin said.) The black chick was also in the Olive Egger bin.
The two other chicks were labeled as “Americana,” but the colors are throwing me off. What are they likely to look like? I know hybrids are always a surprise.
