From what I am reading if they are free range they do not necessarily need grit. I’ll go ahead and get some in case but I don’t think that this is the issue.

Depends what's available where they range. If only fine sand, for example, that probably won't meet their needs. It was just a suggestion, I hope it helps.

Sorry for your losses. I’m unsure if you can get a necropsy in Hawaii. I would try checking each chicken to see if they are losing weight. Offer some cooked egg or tuna occasionally to see if they are eating. If one is weak, mix a quart of water with a tsp of sugar and small pinch of salt, which can help as electrolytes. If the grocery sells Pedialyte for babies, that works well too. Mold is toxic to chickens, so don’t let them eat around compost beds. You could be dealing with worms, or a disease. The symptoms of a sick chicken may help us help you.

I had that happen to the cutest cuckoo maran. It turns out the others hogged all the food and she was timid. We didn’t notice until it was too late and we were devastated.

Oops, sorry. Being Hawaii and shipping issues we have been seeing I thought it was the problem.
