What can I do to scare away a hawk?

from my understanding...a hawk needs a long, low clear flight strip...so to speak... but in the run with the filament and cd's dangling, the hawk cannot make a long uninterrupted swoop down. I have had one hawk come down into the yard but my chickens had all taken cover and were safe..now that happened in the front yard and not in the run.

So sorry, but I doubt it would either..maybe for this time of year you can string Christmas lights across your yard?

I use deer netting on my grower pen when the chicks are small, as it is invisible from a short distance, was only $20 per large roll, and I can fold it up and re-use it each year. Keeps the chicks in and the hawks and ravens out and the neighbors happy!

I use deer netting. Also, I have posted Dollar Store flags around the perimeter of the run. Nevertheless, we did have a hawk fly down and perch on one of our 8' fence posts to figure out how to get in. Knock on wood, we have had no attacks.
My run with its tacky flags and worley-gig birdie...

awks have excellent eyesight. If you string fishing line across your yard, way up high, they will not come anywhere near it. Works brilliantly, and has for years, according to a woman I know who breeds hundreds of chicks and has a lot of area to cover.

If they're truly free-ranging over a large area of pastures etc, I don't think there's too much you can do. . . once hawks find out about you, I think they really stick around.

Sorry
