Its illegal to kill hawks/birds of prey in any part of the USA. No exceptions. Fines felonies and more.

Yep...totally against the law. Sooooo, if a hawk dies in your area and its carcass lands on your property, don't advertise the information.

Oh, and don't break federal laws.

I agree with feeding the crows. I saw a funny thing a few weeks ago, a crow was imitating a chicken crackle and "making fun of a hen", coming near her ,squawking like a chicken and flying off when the hen would charge her. It was hilarious, the crow was just having fun and not harming the chicken.
1. yes, crows are smart and they talk to each other. proctor and gamble did a study on them years ago. crows are a cool thing to have around. they can live upwards to 60 years old. if you try to catch them and manage to get one, don't expect to get another the same way.--they learn and share the information with each other(don't know how) 2. yup, you can't shoot hawks around here either. or bobcats 3. raccoon and opussom seem to be fair game in your coop tho
4. there is a season for everything else, coyote, bear ---funny how the law works, if you find a dog chasing down a deer, you can legally shoot it.

I'm of the belief that all predators fall into the category of SSS. And the last S can't be stressed enough.
Okay, I'm ignorant and had to look up what "SSS" meant. But after finding the page that explains this particular acronym, I am 100% in agreement with you...all predators are defintely Supersonic Sea Skimmers in my book! And super-double-plus-1 on the Skimmers part!!

We have some big red tail hawks around my place however, the ravens chase them out of the area. My neighbor has had problems with ravens in her garden. I guess I am lucky as I have two mocking birds that have a claim to the airspace over my property. The ravens chase the hawks and the mocking birds chase the ravens. I don't have problems with ravens in my vegetable garden.

I don't have chickens yet but, next month we are getting a few....well maybe..we might get guinea fowl now that I know chickens can and will steam role a garden...

I'm surprised there are so many people who accept what is handed down from a bunch of idiotic minions as what's best for them at their house. I suppose if they said it is illegal to defend yourself against a home invader, you'd retreat and hide? What if they outlawed urinating on Thursdays? Swell up until Friday?

Just because an elected minion declares something ILLEGAL does not make it WRONG. Just because some elected minion declares something LEGAL does not make it RIGHT.

Sometimes you just have to decide for yourself where you stand. And I'm not going to sit by and watch ANYTHING or ANYBODY harm my chickens.

I agree with you for the most part....however, I doubt I would break laws over chickens...Chickens can be replaced.. your time behind bars can't...Pick and choose your battles...

I agree about protecting you and your own! We r at the top of the food chain around here too.

I wouldn't break a law over a chicken either... It'd be a shame to have to go to prison for something so menial as killing a hawk. It really says something about the stupidity of a nation when it has such ridiculous laws. I saw in the news just the other day where some fish and game folks took a raccoon away from a guy in Tennessee who had rescued and raised it. Now these overpaid, underworked idiots have nothing better to do than go harass an old man about a raccoon? Gimme a break! They need someone to take them out back and give them a taste of a hickory club and learn to mind their own business. Instead, they'll draw a fat paycheck along with early retirement for such trash. Probably go home and tell their kids how "hard" they worked that day...

They likely won't collect any retirement....the truth is, likely no government employee will (if they are not already retired)...The U.S. along with all state and local governments are broke...keep a close eye on the ten years treasury...when it hits 3.5 percent the U.S. debt interest payments increases annually by 170 billion dollars...5% you are talking a annual interest payment of a 1/2 a trillion dollars...Anyone who thinks the U.S. will not default on its debt in the future needs a math lesson. The government has to borrow to pay interest on the debt..It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when...How things play out when the U.S. defaults will be interesting...I am not sure how that will go down..

Most state and local governments are invested in the markets for retirement purposes...That is why state and local government retirement funds are labeled as unfunded liabilities (not realized)..U.S. defaults, the market will likely crash...good by retirements...It will be Detroit on a massive scale...Labor union law suits will be flying faster than a SR71...But there will be no money...My wife is a school teacher..we are not counting on that or SSN for retirement...

I think the U.S. can kick the can down the road a few more years (3 to 5) but the road will run out...

AMEN! In this day we live in there couldn't be any truer words when it comes to our government! This ought to be engraved in stone!

A whole lot of truth in these words! Where I come from a few people (very very few) have white tailed deer as pets. I heard one story where a game warden found out about these people havibg one, went to their house and shot and killed the pet deer in the driveway right in front of the whole family KIDS INCLUDED - "just to teach them a lesson". Game wardens are the only law official that can legally enter your house and search it without a warrant.
