strawberry crowns for the grandkids. Dang HomeDepot lack of quality.

I’ve had excellent results with strawberries from Gurney’s. Charlottes I believe.

I know several people here have Greenstalks. I have 2 of them... The deep 5-tier ones. I'm not sure I'm a fan... I have one dedicated as a strawberry tower. The other one was used to grow lettuce last year. This year it's dedicated for cilantro, chives, Bunching onions, and parsley. OK... Here's my beef with them:

1. Top 2 tiers seem to dry out really fast and need watered more often.

2. I've watered by hand by filling the top reservoir AND through the watering system I bought from them. In both cases, the top 2 tiers get a good soaking. The bottom 2 tiers don't get much at all.... Lots of wasted water pours out of the bottom while you are waiting for the bottom tiers to get watered well. Instead, I just lose patience and use the hose to spray from top to bottom so all the soil gets a good QUICK watering. Of course, this means foliage gets wet so I have to do this early in the morning.

3. You MUST use good soil that has water beads or Vermiculite. I've used different kinds of container soil and discovered only good soil works well in these beds.

4. I've had some trouble getting good sun exposure on all sides and, thus, couldn't get stuff to thrive in all tiers from top to bottom. Even this year, I've had to reseed stuff twice now.

I just bought one, so I'll keep these tips in mind. Thanks.

I would have ordered for delivery but I was in a rush to get them. Wanted them in the ground for the grandkids this weekend.

The variety I got is Tristar, self pollinating, everbearing. Should be a good strawberry if they grow.

The Isa Brown eggs I ordered on eBay is out for delivery. This is the first time it took only 4 days through the tracking route to reach me. It usually took more than two weeks. I may have a chance.......

I had someone help me import photos off my SD card. First is my cherry rootstock in bloom and second is last years Stanley plum grafted onto native plum.

I think only one egg in my 12 in the incubator is good. I'm going to have to buy Uno some siblings in 12 days.

I am pretty sure this label helped get this through the mail faster. The other vendors leave the package unmarked. In addition, this vendor packed the eggs individually in foam with all the eggs pointy side down. 

These Isa Brown eggs are extra-large, I am impressed.

The little multi-port chick feeder was getting too small for my new chicks' big heads so today they graduated to a single adult size feeder port just like this one, because that's what I had on hand.



Right now I think two or three chicks can get their heads into the port at the same time. As they get bigger it should get the pecking order established. That's my theory anyway. The strongest, most aggressive chicks will get first dibs at the food.
