What did you do in the garden today?

I went out and looked over the garden but haven't done anything. I got almost all the animals fed and watered. I'm ready for a nap which is not me. I have a question about the chicks. Is it true that roosters have longer tail feathers than hens? I'm curious because 4 of the chicks have fairly long tail feathers. Any advice helps. Thank you in advance.
It doesn't work for all breeds, and you only have a window of a couple days to look, like a week to 10 days old. And I THINK, and I could be remembering backwards, that hens have the tail feathers in the age range. Cockerels get theirs later. But it's been a while.

I usually have to wait until and egg comes out, or doesn't. I've had pullets that stand up straight and crow.....so....Ya. LOL.

I totally understand those who choose to put the critters down. We did for years so no judgment here. With everything (bees, insects, and critters alike) struggling to get by these days, I simply choose a different path because I can. In the past 5 years, I've tried really hard to not kill anything needlessly. Except fire ants and wasps. Those (bleep) can die any day of the week. 🤬
Here, wasps are going extinct, which is a bad thing, they eat harmful insects…when I moved here 30 years ago, you couldn’t even start bbq before the first of many wasps landed, now, I am happy to see one every other time I bbq, and, I also kill ticks and mosquitoes without feeling bad 😅

I've got a bumper crop of them.... I'll package some up and send them to you. 😆 I can't put out a single bird feeder or birdhouse without them moving in uninvited... Not to mention regular nest checks in the barn, goat house, dog house, and coops. 🙄

If only I could trade them in for honeybees.

I'm seriously trying to figure out if I have 4 roosters and 2 hens or vice versa. I'm truly hoping that Cheeks gets to stay because OMG, he/she is so cute. I have also named another one. It has a white stripe on its head so Stripe is the name.
