What did you do in the garden today?

It's been in the upper 80s all week. Hot and humid... But tomorrow and Friday we are expecting a 10 degree drop... 👏 I'm going to take advantage of the nice weather to spray fruit (peaches, grapes, apples, etc) and then FINALLY get around to bagging grapes and maybe some more peaches.

I did walk by the corn plot today. It's still under water. 🙄 If I get anything out of it, it'll be a miracle.

Looks like more blackberries have ripened too... Maybe pick those and make some fruit leather. 😋
I think birds have gotten to all my corn seeds.
Green beans are still not up.
The ragweed in the mulch is taking over- I can't hoe it enough, it keeps coming back. I am so annoyed at that.

The great mowing is tomorrow, as we are finally getting some rain, of course, Friday-Monday. Not a wash out, but enough to be a pain in the butt if you have outdoor plans.

Just enjoyed being out in the garden and fussing over it today. Some things are doing great, some not so much. My area didn't get the rain everyone else got around here.. that was disappointing, but I'm grateful for what we did get the day before that. Still working on integration with our chicks. I'm doing the veryyyyy slow process. Hoping my hens forget they are new eventually! Those pecks can be mean. Pray you all are having a great gardening day!

I'm pretty sure the grass and weeds are growing at 10x the rate of my garden. 🙄 I feel like my tomatoes, green beans, and cantaloupe should all be WAY bigger than they are after all this rain.... About the only thing that's growing robustly is my squash (spaghetti, pumpkins, cushaw, and zucchini).

Watering.... And more watering, I need better sprinklers that attach to my hose. It takes time.... A lot of time, to water deeply in all the beds, and the orchard, and the pool clover patch. Days, if I can't dedicate a whole day to moving the hose around.

Still haven't started the new pumpkins.... But I did spend almost 900$ at Costco for the holiday weekend today. I plan to feed an army apparently. 🤔

The little chickens went to bed in the coop with no help today. 😁

Hunkered down for a Spring time Nor’easter. I’m over 50 miles from the coast so it should not be as bad here. It’s been cold the past several days. I had to hold off on planting warm season crops. Temps have ranged from low 40’s to mid to high 50’s. And rainy. I brought the strawberry bags and all plants not in the ground yet inside until the storm passes.

1. go to costco and get more potting soil for the lavender bed, and go to Lows
2. weed eat & mow around the garden

3. work with the new chicks - I let them loose for the first time yesterday, it went well. Big dog Tony LOVES his chickens

Picked another 4-6 cups of blackberries this morning. Going to have a bumper crop of them, I think. Pruning that bed did wonders! Not to mention the wild blackberries that will be ready in July...

On the down side, fungus is doing a number on my grapes because of all the rain. Lost over HALF of them already! 😭 Going to spray today... Both rose bushes next to the grapes have also lost ALL their leaves. Smh...

I'm also convinced that the soil in my garden area is either depleted, too wet, or has something going on with it. Nothing in the ground is growing well over there. Very slow and stunted. After this season, I'm going to work a bunch of compost and leaf mulch in, cover it for the winter, and just let it sit for 4-5 months. Everything that is growing away from that area is doing well, except the corn cause it's still under water.

Ragweed in the mulch is so heavy that I have broken out the pasture grade weed control. This is crazy.

Chicks spent their first night out in the new grow-out pen. I opened the door and only saw one, panic was welling, until they started dropping from the perches up in the grow-out pen attic that I didn't know it had! glory. These animals always find a way to keep you on your toes.
